Malaria Elimination, Namibia

Mrs. Muntande lives with her husband in a village in the Zambezi Region where the Namibia Malaria Elimination Research Partnership (NAMEP) team recently visited. NAMEP works in areas where people are at high risk of malaria to implement the malaria Targeted Parasite Elimination (TPE) program supported by the Novartis Foundation.

When asked how long she had been married for, she shrugged and replied “a very long time”.

With our partners, the Global Health Group at the University of California, San Francisco, the University of Namibia, the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme at the Namibian Ministry of Health and Social Services, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the Clinton Health Access Initiative, we aim to define the optimal strategy to interrupt malaria transmission.

The current intervention aims to determine the effectiveness, operational feasibility, safety and cost-effectiveness of TPE.
