Communities for Healthy Hearts, Vietnam

Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc is often found on her bike traveling around District 12, Ho Chi Minh City, visiting her local community and providing free blood pressure tests. The city is home to the largest urban population in Vietnam, estimated at 8.2 million people.

Ms. Ngoc knows how important it is to be able to talk about high blood pressure and its implications with her community, and that they take her advice seriously.

“Whenever I go out and measure blood pressure, I bring my result sheets. When I finish measuring, I just look it up in the blood pressure index to classify people’s blood pressure. I show people this document so that they can trust me.”

She is passionate about her work with Ho Chi Minh City Communities for Healthy Hearts and has even written her phone number on the “free blood pressure checkpoint” sign outside of her house so she can be reached day or night.

Partnering with PATH and local partners in Ho Chi Minh City, Communities for Healthy Hearts brings hypertension detection and management closer to local communities by maximizing hypertension screening and education opportunities outside the health system, placing screening stations in local shops, markets, pharmacies and other businesses.
